Choose Your Own Neighbors

Best Eldercare and Nursing Home Facilities : Choose Your Own Neighbors

Co-housing is a concept that generates a lot of interest, and for good reason. One of the greatest fears about growing old is the spectre of living with complete strangers and being cared for by an impersonal staff. We have written about co-housing and related ideas before, most notably the famous Beacon Hill cohousing project in Boston.

Just recently we came across a really interesting radio show about a new co-housing project in Virginia. While it appears that many of its residents are too young to be thinking about assisted living, many of the same concepts apply. When a group of like-minded people get together to agree on where and how they will live, and what the rules of the road will be, good things can happen. Certainly any group could have the wherewithal to hire caregivers and share responsibilities as more help is needed. Check out this short radio program-"Choose Thy Neighbor".
